What is BNB chain?

BNB Chain (formerly known as Binance Smart Chain) is a smart contract‐enabled sidechain for Binance Chain. It allows the ecosystem to use the EVM‐compatible functionality on BNB Chain, while making fast asset trades on Binance Chain, which is not slowed down by the need for its own smart contract capabilities.

Is Binance rebranding the BNB beacon chain?

Though Binance's two blockchains now exist under the "BNB Chain" umbrella, they will continue to have their own names. However, they will not be the same as before. Through this rebrand, the Binance chain (its first-ever blockchain launched in 2017), where crypto staking and voting takes place, will now be known as the BNB Beacon Chain.
